Review: Global Citizen Festival 2017

On Saturday, September 23rd of this year marked the annual date of the 2017 Global Citizen Festival. Featuring headliners such as Stevie Wonder, Green Day, The Killers, and The Lumineers, this one-day festival was able to attract tens of thousands of people to flock to Central Park in New York City and sweat it out in the heat while waiting for their favorite acts. The organization behind this mega concert every year is Global Citizen, which is a non-profit organization founded by Hugh Evans, which has a goal to eradicate global poverty by the year 2030 among other global philanthropy missions. Therefore, between each act was either one or an assortment of guest speakers, ranging from the mayor of New York to Chris Martin, speaking out and asking people to take action and make a positive impact on the world. And the best part of this festival-- all the tickets are free! Attendants are entered in a lottery to win a pair of tickets over the course of multiple rounds, and the cost of entry is tweeting, emailing, and calling Congress to act on social issues that matter. In the past, the festival has held huge acts such as Beyonce, Rihanna, Kendrick Lamar, Coldplay, and much more.
